Salem's Lot

Considering that it's a CBS television production from 1979, Salem's Lot still holds up pretty well.

Because it was a lazy Sunday afternoon, I watched the mini-series version, all three hours of it.

Tobe Hooper shows much restraint in his version of Stephen King's novel- of course he does, it was a TV movie, but they pushed the envelope as far as they could for the time.

David Soul was a perfectly serviceable Ben Mears, while Lance Kerwin's performance still holds up; as does that of James Mason as the Renfield-esque antique seller while Reggie Nalder steals every scene he's in in his Count Orlok style make up.

I've seen the CBS Salem's Lot several times over the years, but I haven't seen the 2004 cable version yet- it'll be interesting to see how that stacks up.
